Infosys does not expect the US suspension of new and pending Permanent Labour Certification (PERM) applications to hurt its operations in a material way. The Times of India reported the company’s response.
The Bengaluru-based IT services firm said it was aware of the decision. It added that it would be glad to work with the US Department of Labor and other agencies on any questions they raise.
Infosys said its local workforce and its technology and innovation hubs in the US will keep business running. It also restated its commitment to employees, clients and communities there. The company said it would continue to follow all applicable laws and regulations.
Eight Companies Face the Suspension
The US government has suspended eight technology companies from the PERM programme. They are Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Wipro, HCLTech, Cognizant, Capgemini, Microsoft and Adobe.
The action affects how new and pending PERM applications linked to these firms are processed. US officials have tied the move to concerns about foreign-worker programmes and their possible effect on American workers.
PERM certification is a key step in the employment-based green card process for many foreign workers. While the restrictions last, permanent residency applications sponsored by the affected employers could face delays.
The PERM process is separate from the H-1B visa programme. The suspension does not cancel existing H-1B visas. It also does not stop the companies from hiring in the US.
TCS Takes a Similar View
TCS made a similar statement before Infosys. It said the suspension was not expected to affect its workforce strategy or its client work.
The company pointed to its low level of recent PERM activity and its focus on hiring local talent in the US. It has also announced plans to add 15,000 employees in the country over five years.
Both firms say they expect no material effect on their near-term business. Even so, employees with pending applications may face uncertainty. So may those who planned to start the employer-sponsored green card process.
What It Means for Indian IT Professionals
The suspension may slow green card progress for employees sponsored by the affected companies. The effect on each person will depend on where their application stands and how long the restrictions last.
For Indian IT firms, the episode puts local hiring, workforce planning and US immigration risk in focus. Employees counting on employer-sponsored residency may face delays until US authorities explain the next steps.
