Assam to Produce ‘Made in India’ Chips by 2025: Vaishnaw

Union Minister for Information and Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Tuesday that semiconductor fabrication plants in Assam will begin delivering ‘Made in India’ chips by next year. The minister made the statement at the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investors Summit in Guwahati, emphasizing the state’s growing role in India’s semiconductor ecosystem.

Boosting Assam’s Industrial and Technological Growth

Vaishnaw credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for driving the state’s economic development. He highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects, including railway, highway, and airport expansions, which are enhancing connectivity and attracting investments.

“The most delightful news is the semiconductor plant approved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Assam. The construction of the plant is progressing well, and by next year, ‘Made in India’ chips will establish the pride of both India and Assam,” Vaishnaw stated.

Tata Semiconductor’s Role in Northeast’s Tech Revolution

Recently, Tata Semiconductor launched its assembly and testing facility in Jagiroad, marking a significant milestone in the state’s semiconductor and electronics manufacturing sector.

This plant is expected to catalyze technological growth across the Northeast and strengthen India’s semiconductor industry, supporting the country’s ambition to become a global semiconductor manufacturing hub.

Global Attention at Advantage Assam 2.0

The Advantage Assam 2.0 summit was inaugurated earlier in the day by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who described it as a grand initiative to connect the state with global markets.

High-level delegations from Australia, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Indonesia, Thailand, Bhutan, and industrialists from Japan attended the summit, underscoring the state’s rising prominence in global investment circles.

With semiconductor production set to commence in 2025, Assam is poised to become a key player in India’s high-tech manufacturing sector, fostering innovation, job creation, and economic growth in the region.
