Infosys Wins ₹14,000 Cr NHS Contract to Digitize Workforce

In a landmark win for Indian IT giant Infosys, the company has secured a £1.2 billion (₹14,000 crore) contract from the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) to design, implement, and operate an AI-powered workforce management platform for England and Wales’ National Health Service.

The 15-year engagement, titled the Future NHS Workforce Solution, aims to overhaul the existing Electronic Staff Record (ESR) platform used by 1.9 million NHS employees. Once implemented, the new system will process over £55 billion in annual payroll, making it one of Infosys’ largest UK projects to date and its biggest contract in nearly two years.

Driving Efficiency with AI and Analytics

Infosys will deploy advanced analytics, AI-driven automation, and unified workforce planning tools to modernize recruitment, onboarding, career development, and payroll management across the NHS. The system is designed to improve employee experience and operational efficiency while aligning with the UK’s 10-Year Health Plan.

Salil Parekh, CEO and MD of Infosys, described the engagement as a “generational transformation” for the NHS:

“We are honored to partner with one of the world’s most respected public healthcare institutions. The Future Workforce Solution will not only improve efficiency but also empower NHS employees with modern digital tools for better service delivery.”

Infosys’ proprietary AI platform Topaz will power key elements of the system, integrating with other NHS applications to streamline data flow and reduce administrative workload.

Enhancing Workforce Planning and User Experience

The new platform will create a unified, cloud-based ecosystem enabling data-driven insights into staffing needs, employee training, and career pathways. Designed for scalability, it will help NHS managers forecast workforce demand, identify skill gaps, and support long-term workforce planning.

Michael Brodie, Chief Executive of NHSBSA, said the project goes “far beyond simply replacing ESR.”

“It is a strategic enabler for building a workforce fit for the future. With Infosys’ global experience in digital transformation, this project will elevate NHS workforce management for decades to come.”

A Major Step in Infosys’ UK Growth Strategy

This deal comes almost two years after Infosys’ $1.64 billion contract with Liberty Global, reinforcing its position as a key digital transformation partner for UK public sector institutions. The win is also expected to strengthen the company’s footprint in Europe, where it has been expanding rapidly through partnerships in healthcare, banking, and telecom.

As AI adoption accelerates across sectors, the Infosys–NHS collaboration marks a defining moment in the modernization of healthcare administration — combining AI intelligence, cloud scalability, and human-centric design to build a future-ready workforce system for one of the world’s largest employers.
