ST Telemedia to Invest ₹5,000 Crore in Maharashtra Data Centers

ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (India), one of the country’s leading colocation and data center service providers, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Maharashtra to invest up to ₹5,000 crore in developing new, large-scale data center campuses. The agreement will support the creation of advanced, AI-ready facilities in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Pune.

The initiative marks a key milestone in Maharashtra’s plan to attract global technology infrastructure investments. The signing ceremony took place in Mumbai in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister and senior government officials, alongside leadership from ST Telemedia.

The investment will fund the expansion of existing data parks and the development of a 27-acre hyperscale campus in Palava. The site will be equipped with advanced liquid-cooling systems designed for high-density computing workloads, enabling scalable AI deployment across industries.

Boosting Digital Infrastructure and Employment

ST Telemedia’s expansion plan is expected to generate more than 500 direct jobs and around 2,000 indirect employment opportunities in construction, maintenance, and ancillary services. The move also strengthens the company’s presence in Maharashtra, where it already operates major data center hubs.

Bruno Lopez, President and Group CEO of ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, said the collaboration reinforces the company’s commitment to supporting India’s digital growth. “This partnership with the Government of Maharashtra underscores our shared vision of building future-ready, sustainable data infrastructure to power AI and digital transformation.”

Bimal Khandelwal, CEO of ST Telemedia Global Data Centres India, added that the new campuses will be designed for energy efficiency and operational sustainability, aligning with the company’s ESG goals. “We aim to build data centers that are not only scalable but also sustainable, serving as the digital backbone for enterprises and hyperscale clients,” he said.

Maharashtra’s Digital Push

The state government welcomed the investment, describing it as a major step toward establishing Maharashtra as a technology and innovation hub. The Chief Minister said the project will accelerate the state’s digital economy and strengthen its role in India’s expanding data center network.

“The government will provide full support to ensure the timely execution of these projects and the creation of opportunities for skilled professionals across the state,” he said.

With operations across 10 major cities in India, including Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, ST Telemedia’s new facilities in Maharashtra are expected to play a pivotal role in meeting the growing demand for AI infrastructure, cloud services, and enterprise computing.
