OpenAI has signed a $38 billion multi-year agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to run and scale its core artificial intelligence workloads on AWS’s cloud infrastructure. The partnership, one of the largest AI infrastructure deals to date, gives OpenAI access to hundreds of thousands of NVIDIA GPUs and millions of CPUs, all optimized for large-scale AI training and inference.
Under the agreement, OpenAI will begin using AWS compute immediately, with full capacity expected to be deployed before the end of 2026, and further expansion planned through 2027 and beyond.

AWS to Serve as the Backbone for OpenAI’s Expanding Workloads
The deal reinforces AWS’s role as a cornerstone of global AI infrastructure, positioning it alongside NVIDIA and Microsoft in driving next-generation AI deployment. “AWS’s best-in-class infrastructure will serve as a backbone for OpenAI’s AI ambitions,” said Matt Garman, CEO of AWS. “Our optimized compute capacity ensures the reliability, scalability, and agility that OpenAI needs for its rapidly growing workloads.”
The new AI infrastructure features NVIDIA GB200 and GB300 GPUs connected via Amazon EC2 UltraServers, designed for low-latency, high-throughput performance. These systems will handle both inference for ChatGPT and training for next-generation models, ensuring OpenAI can scale efficiently as demand surges.
Extending Collaboration Across Enterprise and Research Ecosystems
The deal also extends the companies’ earlier collaboration on Amazon Bedrock, where OpenAI’s open-weight foundation models are available to enterprise customers. Organizations such as Comscore, Peloton, Thomson Reuters, and Verana Health are already integrating OpenAI’s models via AWS to accelerate agentic workflows, coding, and scientific research.
AWS said the partnership will further democratize access to advanced AI tools for businesses and developers across industries, combining OpenAI’s model expertise with AWS’s massive global infrastructure footprint.
A Trillion-Dollar AI Compute Race
The OpenAI–AWS partnership is the latest in a series of massive AI infrastructure deals that collectively represent over $1 trillion in potential global commitments.
It follows OpenAI’s recent partnerships with NVIDIA, AMD, and Broadcom, which together account for over 26 gigawatts of compute capacity worldwide.
