Airtel, IBM Partner to Strengthen AI-Ready Cloud Infrastructure

Telecom leader Bharti Airtel has announced a strategic partnership with IBM to strengthen its Airtel Cloud platform, integrating IBM’s AI-ready infrastructure and hybrid cloud solutions. The collaboration is designed to deliver enterprise-grade reliability, data residency, and AI inferencing capabilities to clients across banking, healthcare, and government sectors.

Through the partnership, Airtel Cloud will offer access to IBM Power Systems-as-a-Service, including the newly launched IBM Power11 autonomous servers, which are optimized for mission-critical workloads and AI performance. These systems will support multiple enterprise operating environments such as IBM AIX, IBM i, Linux, and SAP Cloud ERP, enabling large-scale digital modernization for regulated industries.

Extending Cloud Footprint Across India

The partnership will expand Airtel Cloud’s availability zones in India from four to ten, with plans to launch two new Multizone Regions (MZRs) in Mumbai and Chennai. These MZRs, hosted in Airtel’s next-generation sustainable data centers, are designed to provide high resiliency and low latency for enterprise workloads.

Gopal Vittal, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, Bharti Airtel, said:

“Airtel Cloud is built for security and agility, setting new benchmarks for compliance and performance. With IBM’s expertise, we’re enhancing our platform to meet the demands of AI-ready enterprises that require migration from legacy systems to hybrid, scalable environments.”

Bringing AI Inferencing and Automation to Enterprises

As part of the collaboration, Airtel Cloud customers will gain access to IBM’s watsonx platform and Red Hat OpenShift AI, enabling AI model inferencing, workflow automation, and multi-cloud integration. The combined platform will allow businesses to deploy, train, and manage AI models across hybrid environments while maintaining control over data sovereignty.

Rob Thomas, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, IBM, said:

“Enterprises today must balance modernization with regulatory compliance and AI innovation. Together with Airtel, we’re enabling Indian organizations to adopt secure, high-performance cloud infrastructure optimized for AI and hybrid workloads.”

The partnership also includes IBM’s IaaS and PaaS offerings, designed to accelerate the adoption of generative AI in enterprise workflows, driving improved decision-making and productivity.

Supporting India’s Digital Infrastructure Goals

This collaboration supports India’s vision of building a resilient, AI-driven cloud infrastructure ecosystem. With Airtel’s telecom-grade network and IBM’s technology stack, the partnership is expected to help Indian enterprises achieve faster digital transformation, greater efficiency, and long-term compliance assurance.

By combining global cloud technology with local infrastructure expertise, the Airtel–IBM alliance reinforces India’s position as a growing hub for AI and hybrid cloud innovation.
