ANRF’s SARAL AI Democratises Science Across 18 Indian Languages

The Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) has unveiled plans for SARAL AI, a groundbreaking artificial intelligence platform that will convert complex scientific research publications, patents and technical reports into accessible social media content, podcasts, short videos, infographics and business briefs across 18 Indian languages. Union Minister of State for Science & Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh reviewed ANRF’s ambitious roadmap during a high-level meeting, emphasising mission-mode research programmes and societal innovation through “Leapfrog Demonstrators” targeting pollution control, climate resilience and sustainable agriculture.

The initiative addresses India’s research communication paradox: third-largest global research output by volume, yet limited public engagement due to language barriers and technical complexity. SARAL AI aims to democratise knowledge by generating multilingual content—posters for WhatsApp forwards, TikTok-ready explainers, LinkedIn carousels—from peer-reviewed papers, making cutting-edge discoveries relatable for Tier-II/III audiences and non-English speakers.

Science for the Masses: SARAL AI’s Mission

Dr. Singh underscored the societal mandate: “Research outcomes must reach citizens in simple formats demonstrating direct relevance.” Current academic communication remains trapped in jargon-heavy journals; SARAL AI breaks this cycle through automated translation, simplification algorithms and multimedia generation trained on India’s multilingual research corpus.

The platform integrates with ANRF’s digital ecosystem: PMECRG Lightning Talk series (3-minute research pitches), institutional WhatsApp/Arattai channels and researcher webinars.
