Assam Unveils Industrial, Green Energy & Conservation Plans

The Assam government has announced the development of a mega industrial park in Morigaon district, marking a significant step in the state’s push toward economic growth and industrial expansion. The cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has allocated 569 bighas (over 188 acres) of land for this project.

This move aligns with Assam’s broader efforts to attract investments and create employment opportunities in the state. With manufacturing and industrialization playing a crucial role in India’s economic growth, Assam is positioning itself as a hub for industrial development, much like other states that have successfully leveraged industrial parks for economic transformation.

The industrial park will aim to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) while also attracting large-scale investments from national and international businesses. The state government is expected to provide incentives and policy support to ensure ease of business operations.

Assam’s Push for Renewable Energy with Clean Energy Policy 2025

A major highlight of the cabinet meeting was the approval of the Assam Integrated Clean Energy Policy, 2025, a landmark initiative focused on solar, wind, hydro, hydrogen, and other green energy sources.

Assam, like many Indian states, is taking proactive measures to transition toward cleaner energy solutions in line with India’s broader Net Zero commitment. The policy aims to attract investments in renewable energy projects, encourage private sector participation, and promote energy-efficient solutions.

The move follows the Union Government’s focus on boosting renewable energy adoption across India, with initiatives like PM Kusum for solar energy and state-level energy transition roadmaps. With Assam now pushing for solar and wind energy expansion, it is likely to see increased investments from both domestic and international energy companies.

This development also ties in with India’s recent partnerships with global firms in the renewable sector, such as SIDBI’s $100 million credit agreement with France’s AFD to boost green finance for MSMEs. Assam’s new policy is expected to complement such national and international initiatives, strengthening the state’s energy infrastructure and sustainability efforts.

New Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park to Expand Conservation Efforts

In another significant decision, the Assam cabinet approved the creation of a new national park named Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park, covering 316.29 sq km across Chirang and Kokrajhar districts. This park will connect and expand conservation efforts between Raimona National Park and Manas National Park, providing a larger habitat for wildlife conservation.

Assam has been at the forefront of wildlife conservation in India. With the establishment of Kaziranga National Park, Manas National Park, and Raimona National Park, the state has played a crucial role in protecting biodiversity, preserving ecosystems, and promoting eco-tourism.

By adding another national park, Assam is strengthening its commitment to wildlife conservation, particularly for species like Asian elephants, Bengal tigers, and one-horned rhinoceroses, which require large, protected habitats. This move also aligns with India’s recent conservation efforts, such as the reintroduction of cheetahs in Madhya Pradesh and the push to protect endangered species through expanded forest reserves.

Strengthening Healthcare & Traditional Medicine

Apart from economic and environmental initiatives, the Assam government has also announced postgraduate increments for Ayurvedic doctors who have successfully completed their three-year PG courses. This initiative is expected to encourage more medical professionals to specialize in Ayurveda, a traditional medical system that is gaining prominence under the Ayushman Bharat and Ayush policies of India.

This decision ties into the larger trend of integrating Ayurveda with modern healthcare, a step that was also seen in the Union Budget 2025-26, which prioritized holistic healthcare and increased investments in research and alternative medicine. The push for Ayurvedic development is also expected to boost local manufacturing of Ayurvedic medicines, benefiting SMEs engaged in traditional medicine production.
