Bengaluru has cemented its position as a preferred destination for global companies seeking remote artificial intelligence (AI) talent, emerging as the fourth most hired-from city in the Asia-Pacific region. According to data from global HR solutions provider Deel, reported by The Economic Times, companies from the US, UK, Germany, Singapore, Sweden, and Canada are increasingly turning to Indian talent to fill critical AI roles.
These companies are recruiting Indian professionals across full-time, freelance, and contractual engagements—all remote—providing them with access to highly skilled workers without the challenges of immigration logistics or the higher costs associated with onshore hiring.
Remote Hiring Surges as Demand Doubles
The demand for AI talent in India is on a sharp upward trajectory. The total number of AI-related roles in the country is expected to more than double, from 600,000 in 2022 to over 1.25 million by 2027. The US alone witnessed a 135% year-on-year increase in remote hiring from India in 2024, while Germany and Singapore saw a 50% surge, underscoring India’s growing importance in the global AI workforce ecosystem.
The most sought-after roles include AI researchers and data scientists skilled in machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing, model fine-tuning, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG). On the junior end of the spectrum, there is rising demand for prompt engineers, AI artists, and video editors, especially for content and media automation projects.
Remote AI Jobs Offer Higher Pay and Broader Opportunities
For Indian professionals, these global remote roles present significant financial advantages. Deel reports that remote AI professionals in India are earning an average annualized compensation of $25,000—nearly double the $13,000 typically earned through domestic, non-remote positions. The high-paying opportunities, combined with flexible work arrangements, are encouraging more tech talent to explore remote work through platforms such as Upwork, Appen, and Fiverr.
These freelance marketplaces have seen an explosion in demand for Indian AI specialists, particularly for large-scale data projects that require the processing of millions of data rows in short timelines.
