Bharat Forge has announced a strategic partnership with French firm Liebherr-Aerospace & Transportation SAS to establish an advanced aerospace manufacturing facility in Pune. The plant will focus on high-precision landing gear components and will be operational later this year, the company said on Thursday.
State-of-the-Art Aerospace Manufacturing
The Pune facility will feature a ring mill that integrates advanced forging and machining technologies. This will enable Bharat Forge and Liebherr to cater to global aerospace industry demand, including both civil and defense customers. The facility will specialize in producing landing gear components, a critical part of aerospace engineering that requires extreme precision and durability.
Guru Biswal, Aerospace CEO of Bharat Forge Ltd., highlighted the strategic importance of this collaboration. “This partnership with Liebherr is a testament to our shared commitment to innovation and excellence in aerospace manufacturing. Our investments in the ring mill and landing gear machining capabilities reinforce our focus on precision engineering and long-term value creation for the aerospace industry,” he said.
Strengthening India’s Aerospace Supply Chain
Liebherr-Aerospace & Transportation, a division of the Liebherr Group, is a leading global provider of on-board solutions for aviation and transportation. The company specializes in environmental control and thermal management systems, flight control systems, actuation systems, landing gears, and onboard electronics.
Alex Vlielander, Chief Customer Officer at Liebherr-Aerospace & Transportation SAS, emphasized the importance of India in the global aerospace supply chain. “We have partnered with Bharat Forge in establishing this advanced facility. The integration of these technologies will enable us to meet the exacting standards of the aerospace sector while strengthening our supply chain capabilities,” he stated.

Boosting India’s Aerospace & Defense Industry
This collaboration is set to enhance India’s position in the global aerospace market by expanding domestic manufacturing capabilities and reducing reliance on imports for critical aircraft components. With India witnessing a surge in aviation, defense, and space exploration investments, the new plant is expected to contribute significantly to the country’s Make in India initiative for aerospace and defense.
The partnership also aligns with the government’s push for indigenous defense manufacturing, which has led to record-high defense exports and increased foreign collaborations in recent years. The facility in Pune will not only create job opportunities but also boost India’s capabilities in advanced aerospace engineering.
With Bharat Forge’s expertise in precision engineering and Liebherr’s global leadership in aerospace solutions, this joint venture is poised to reshape India’s aerospace manufacturing landscape and support its ambitions to become a global aerospace hub.
