GreenLine Mobility Solutions, the green mobility arm of the Essar Group, announced a $275 million equity investment to scale up the decarbonisation of heavy-duty road logistics in India. The funding includes a $20 million contribution from Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath.
The investment will be used to deploy over 10,000 LNG and electric-powered trucks and establish a nationwide infrastructure of 100 LNG refuelling stations, electric vehicle (EV) charging points, and battery swapping facilities.
Target: 1 Million Tonnes of CO₂ Reduction Annually
India’s road logistics sector—currently dominated by more than 40 lakh trucks—is among the most carbon-intensive. GreenLine’s initiative is expected to reduce one million tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
The company’s current fleet of 650+ LNG-powered trucks serves sectors such as FMCG, e-commerce, cement, metals, mining, and oil & gas. These vehicles, which emit up to 30% less CO₂ compared to diesel alternatives, have already covered 38 million kilometres and prevented over 10,000 tonnes of carbon emissions.

Building an Integrated Clean Mobility Ecosystem
Essar Group Director Anshuman Ruia said, “We see this as an opportunity to not only build the green mobility ecosystem, but also, in the future, invest in clean energy sources to power our electric trucks.”
He emphasised that this integrated strategy would help reduce emissions, cut down on energy imports, and accelerate India’s journey toward a more sustainable and energy-secure future.
Anand Mimani, CEO of GreenLine, added, “This investment brings us closer to our vision of transforming India’s road logistics sector. We urge India Inc. to support this transition to a cleaner, greener logistics framework.”
