EyeROV Bags ₹47 Cr Indian Navy Deal

Kochi-based robotics startup EyeROV has signed a ₹47 crore contract with the Indian Navy to supply advanced Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (UWROVs), marking a major milestone for India’s deep-tech defence ecosystem. The deal underscores the Navy’s focus on leveraging homegrown innovations for strengthening underwater capabilities.

EyeROV, known for its rugged submersible drones, has developed UWROVs like the TROUT model — a 300-metre depth-rated vehicle designed for missions such as underwater surveillance, mine detection, and reconnaissance. These systems will be deployed in challenging marine conditions, with the Navy set to receive versions tested across extreme environments ranging from the Antarctic to underwater volcanoes.

Indian Innovation Anchors Naval Modernization

Founded in 2017, EyeROV has executed over 100 deployments across India and abroad. Its clientele includes DRDO, the Indian Coast Guard, CSIR, and the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR). The startup’s success is built on a commitment to indigenous design and manufacturing — a key pillar of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative in defence.

“For eight years, EyeROV has engineered underwater systems tested in the harshest conditions,” said Co-founder and CTO Kannappa Palaniappan. “This partnership with the Navy is proof that Indian innovation can set benchmarks globally in defence deep-tech.”

Co-founder and CEO Johns T. Mathai added that the deal reflects the growing trust between startups and strategic defence forces. “We sincerely thank the iDEX and Navy teams for supporting advanced indigenous solutions,” he said.

EyeROV’s Expanding Tech Portfolio

In addition to the TROUT and TUNA submersibles, EyeROV also offers iBoat Alpha — a surface vessel for marine research and inspections. The startup has received several national recognitions, including the National Startup Award in 2022, and is ranked among India’s top five defence-tech startups.

The company emphasized that its vehicles are not just designed for lab conditions but built to withstand the real-world rigours of naval deployments. Their modular design and precision navigation capabilities make them ideal for missions requiring high accuracy and safety.

Boosting India’s Underwater Strategic Readiness

This landmark contract is more than a commercial win — it positions EyeROV as a critical player in India’s underwater defence landscape. As the Navy gears up for expanded blue-water operations, homegrown underwater robotics will be vital to safeguarding infrastructure, deterring threats, and supporting complex missions in Indian and international waters.
