Gen Z Embraces Visual AI Tools at Work: Canva Report

A new survey by Canva highlights a growing shift in workplace design expectations, with Gen Z professionals increasingly turning to AI-powered visual tools for daily communication, brainstorming, and productivity. The findings show that 81% of Gen Z respondents globally already use AI tools at work, with 9 in 10 expecting AI to become standard in business communication.

India ranks among the highest in AI adoption, with 91% of professionals across age groups reporting usage of AI tools in the workplace. This trend is especially prominent among Gen Z employees, who rely on AI for visual content creation, idea generation, and real-time feedback during collaborative sessions.

Visual communication becomes business-critical

The survey, conducted across 8,000 professionals in the US, UK, India, Germany, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, and France, indicates that visual content is becoming central to business productivity. Around 64% of Gen Z workers use visual tools to facilitate team collaboration, and 58% prefer image or video-based updates over traditional email or text formats.

Employees also noted that visual content reduces information overload, speeds up decision-making, and improves clarity in internal messaging. Canva reported a 30% rise in the use of its Visual Suite features, including Magic Design and AI Presentations, indicating a strong preference for generative tools that simplify creative workflows.

AI fluency now seen as a core workplace skill

The shift toward visual AI tools is also reshaping job expectations. About 55% of respondents said that proficiency in AI-powered design and communication tools will be an essential requirement in the next five years. Gen Z respondents are already using these tools not just for creativity but also for reporting, stakeholder communication, and project management.

Canva’s India Country Manager noted that visual storytelling powered by AI has become key to how younger teams communicate at scale. As more businesses adopt hybrid models, tools that combine automation, design, and collaboration are likely to become a baseline requirement across industries.

The survey reinforces the role of AI as an enabler of productivity and inclusivity, particularly for younger, digitally native workers. Enterprises investing in AI-driven design platforms stand to benefit from faster onboarding, improved team communication, and greater creative agility.
