Government Disburses ₹1,596 Crore Under PLI Scheme in First Half of FY25

The Indian government has disbursed ₹1,596 crore under the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme to six sectors during the first half of the current financial year, according to an official statement released on Tuesday. This brings the cumulative disbursement under the scheme to ₹11,317 crore since its launch.

With a total outlay of ₹1.97 lakh crore allocated across 14 sectors, the PLI scheme is a flagship initiative aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing, reducing import dependence, and increasing exports.

Sector-wise Allocation in H1FY25

Of the ₹1,596 crore disbursed between April and September 2024 under the PLI scheme, the electronics manufacturing sector received the largest allocation, amounting to ₹964 crore. The pharmaceutical sector followed with ₹604 crore, while food products received ₹11 crore.

Telecom equipment accounted for ₹9 crore, bulk drugs were allocated ₹6 crore, and drones received ₹2 crore. These disbursements highlight the government’s focus on incentivizing performance in key industries to strengthen India’s manufacturing ecosystem.

Achievements Under the PLI Scheme

As of August 2024, significant milestones have been achieved across all 14 sectors covered by the PLI scheme:

  • Investments Realised: ₹1.46 lakh crore
  • Incremental Production/Sales: ₹12.50 lakh crore
  • Employment Generated: Over 950,000 jobs
  • Exports Surpassed: ₹4 lakh crore

The scheme has approved over 760 applications, enabling widespread participation from industries across sectors.

FY25 Projections

For the current fiscal year, the government aims to disburse ₹15,000 crore under the scheme. Officials are confident of meeting this target as companies typically begin filing their claims after completing audits of the previous year’s production, which usually occurs after September.

The PLI scheme has been pivotal in transforming India into a global manufacturing hub, with sectors such as electronics and pharmaceuticals driving significant growth. By incentivizing local production and fostering innovation, the initiative aligns with the government’s vision of an “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (Self-Reliant India).
