India’s First Paediatric Rehab with Robotics Launched

India’s first robotic-assisted Paediatric Gait Trainer, designed to aid children with mobility impairments, was launched by Genrobotics in January. The innovative device, named G-Gaiter Paediatric, was inaugurated by Kerala Health Minister Veena George at a ceremony held at the C-DAC auditorium in Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram.

The G-Gaiter Paediatric incorporates advanced Virtual Reality (VR) and real-time interactive games to create an engaging therapy environment for children. The first machine was handed over to the Thanal Group, a charitable trust based in Kannur, during the event.

Cutting-Edge Robotic Technology for Rehabilitation

The G-Gaiter Paediatric is built using Genrobotics’ patented GPLOT Exoskeleton Technology, enabling children to develop natural gait patterns through precise robotic therapy. It offers an Intelligent Therapy Mode that helps patients relearn motor patterns, improve muscle coordination, and enhance functional mobility. The device is designed to ensure comfort and accessibility, making it child-friendly and effective for long-term use.

“This innovation will significantly improve the rehabilitation process for children suffering from cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, and other conditions affecting gait,” Minister Veena George stated during the event, emphasizing the importance of integrating technology with Kerala’s strong public healthcare system.

Improving Accessibility in Healthcare

Minister George highlighted that Kerala’s health sector has traditionally relied on community interventions and public health initiatives. However, with the launch of technological ventures like G-Gaiter, the state is moving toward a new era of technology-enhanced healthcare. The device will soon be installed at Sree Avittam Thirunal (SAT) Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, a Centre of Excellence for Mother and Childcare recognized by the Central Government.

Revolutionizing Physical Rehabilitation

Genrobotics CEO Vimal Govind M K expressed the company’s vision to revolutionize physical medicine through technology. “Our aim is to ensure that people with gait challenges, irrespective of age, have access to advanced rehabilitation solutions,” he stated.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Anoop Ambika, CEO of Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM), Dr. PV Unnikrishnan, Member Secretary of K-DISC, and Dr. Rahul UR, State Nodal Officer for Child Health. These stakeholders emphasized that the integration of robotics and intelligent therapy would significantly enhance healthcare outcomes for children with mobility issues.

With this launch, Kerala takes a significant step toward advancing rehabilitative healthcare, reaffirming its commitment to technological innovation and patient-centered care.
