Luxury Brands Must Go Green, Say Experts

The luxury industry must urgently adopt climate-conscious business models to remain resilient in the face of escalating environmental challenges, according to industry experts and entrepreneurs. Speaking at ‘Sasmrti – The Responsible Luxury Roundtable’ held recently in New Delhi, panelists emphasized that sustainability is no longer optional but essential for the survival and credibility of luxury brands.

The event was organised by Shweta Thakur Nanda and Gautam Gupta, co-owner of the luxury fashion brand Asha Gautam.

Industry Leaders Call for Responsible Transformation

Blossom Kochhar, Chairperson of Blossom Kochhar Group of Companies, called on the industry to embrace sustainable living and operations not just for current market relevance but for the benefit of future generations. She stated that businesses must align their goals with the planet’s well-being.

Lipika Sud, Founder Director of Lipika Sud Interiors, added that real impact can only come through the collaborative efforts of designers, companies, policymakers, and consumers. She urged the sector to see sustainability as an integrated part of the design and production process.

Conscious Consumers Driving Market Shift

Shweta Thakur Nanda highlighted that the evolving demands of conscious consumers are pushing the luxury industry towards responsible practices. She described responsible luxury as a blend of sustainability, ethical operations, and stakeholder welfare — where indulgence does not come at the cost of the environment.
