Madhya Pradesh Invites Toyota for Facility Setup

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has invited Toyota Motor Corporation to establish facilities in the state, highlighting its investor-friendly policies, skilled workforce, and strong infrastructure. During a meeting with Toyota’s senior leadership on Tuesday, Yadav emphasized the opportunities Madhya Pradesh offers for investment and youth skill development in technical jobs.

Madhya Pradesh: An Ideal Destination for Toyota

During his four-day visit to Japan, Yadav met with key Toyota executives. These included Toshiyuki Nakahara and Masahiro Nogi. They discussed potential trade collaborations between Toyota and Madhya Pradesh. The Chief Minister highlighted Madhya Pradesh as a central hub for automotive manufacturing. He emphasized its strategic location, ample land availability, and large pool of skilled workers.

In a statement shared on X, Yadav said, “Madhya Pradesh stands as the ideal destination for Toyota to establish facilities and invest in enhancing youth training in technical jobs. The state offers vast land, excellent infrastructure, and a rapidly growing automobile sector.”

Automotive Growth and Existing Players

Yadav pointed to the Pithampur Auto Cluster as a key industrial hub offering significant business opportunities. He also highlighted the presence of major players like Volvo and Mahindra & Mahindra, who have already benefited from setting up facilities in the state.

Madhya Pradesh is the second-largest manufacturer of trucks and buses and the third-largest manufacturer of cars in India. With its robust policy framework, the state offers up to 40% capital subsidy and has positioned itself as a hub for commercial vehicles and farm equipment.

Toyota’s Focus on India

Toyota officials acknowledged Madhya Pradesh as an “important state” and expressed interest in collaborating closely with the state government. They highlighted the Toyota Technical Education Program, which aims to enhance skill development for youth in the region, aligning with the state’s focus on creating a trained workforce.

Infrastructure and Export Capabilities

Madhya Pradesh has 52 private and 17 government technology and engineering colleges. Together, they produce around 50,000 technically skilled graduates annually. This provides a ready talent pool for automotive and related industries.

The state offers affordable land and low-cost skilled labor. It also hosts manufacturing units of leading international OEMs, allowing cost-effective operations and direct exports.

In FY24, Madhya Pradesh exported automobiles and auto components worth $191 million to over 200 countries. This highlights its strong integration into global supply chains.

A Strategic Move for Toyota

By setting up facilities in Madhya Pradesh, Toyota could leverage the state’s central location to access markets across India and benefit from its supportive policies, skilled workforce, and growing domestic market. Yadav’s invitation underscores Madhya Pradesh’s aspirations to become a premier destination for global automotive investments.
