In a strong push for sustainability and self-reliance in infrastructure development, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Sunday urged industry leaders to reduce import dependence, adopt green and clean construction technologies, and explore modular, earthquake-resistant infrastructure solutions.
Speaking at the inaugural edition of Vibrant Buildcon 2025, organised by the Chemicals & Allied Products Export Promotion Council (CAPEXIL) in New Delhi, Goyal underscored the role of construction and allied sectors in powering India’s economic trajectory. “Sectors such as housing, commercial real estate, infrastructure, railways, highways, airports, and energy form the backbone of India’s economic engine,” he noted.
He emphasized that each component of the construction value chain—ranging from cement and insulation to electricals, security systems, and smart automation—has a critical role to play in enabling robust and future-ready infrastructure.
A Call for Self-Reliant Infrastructure
The Minister called on stakeholders to localise manufacturing inputs and components, thereby reducing India’s import bill and supporting the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision. He noted that the construction industry has immense potential to adopt indigenous technologies and materials, which would not only support domestic manufacturing but also ensure quicker and cost-effective project execution.
“Our aim should be to make construction greener, more resilient, and aligned with sustainability goals,” he said, encouraging greater adoption of modular construction techniques and technologies that minimise carbon footprint.
Massive Scale of Opportunities Underway
Goyal also laid out the government’s forward-looking plans to boost infrastructure and industrial growth. He pointed to the development of 20 new smart industrial cities and plug-and-play industrial hubs across 100 locations. In addition, tourism infrastructure at 50 destinations is being revamped to support regional economies and attract greater investment.
“These initiatives are laying the foundation for India’s transformation from a $4 trillion economy today to a $30–35 trillion economy by 2047,” Goyal said, expressing confidence that the country’s construction and building materials ecosystem will play a defining role in achieving that vision.

Vibrant Buildcon 2025: A Platform for Collaboration
Vibrant Buildcon 2025 brought together stakeholders from the construction, infrastructure, and allied product sectors for knowledge-sharing, partnership building, and exploring export potential. Organised by CAPEXIL, the event focused on advancing innovation, quality standards, and competitiveness of Indian products in global markets.
Goyal acknowledged the rising role of public-private partnerships and innovation-led growth in driving India’s infrastructure sector. He urged businesses to invest in R&D, adopt sustainable construction practices, and ensure compliance with environmental norms.
As India gears up for one of the largest infrastructure expansions in the world, the Minister’s message served as a call to action: to build not just faster or cheaper, but smarter, greener, and more resilient.
