Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for development projects worth over ₹2 lakh crore in Visakhapatnam, marking a transformative step in Andhra Pradesh industry. The projects span green energy, industrial development, and connectivity, reflecting the government’s commitment to sustainable progress and economic empowerment.
During the event, PM Modi emphasized Andhra Pradesh’s potential as a state of “possibilities and opportunities.” He stated, “The development of Andhra Pradesh is our vision, and serving its people is our commitment.” The projects, he added, are aligned with the government’s goal of making India a global leader in sustainability and advanced technologies.
Prominent dignitaries, including Andhra Pradesh Governor S. Abdul Nazeer and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, were present at the event.
Green Hydrogen Hub Takes Center Stage
The event marked the foundation stone-laying for India’s first Green Hydrogen Hub under the National Green Hydrogen Mission at Pudimadaka, near Visakhapatnam. The hub represents a significant step in India’s green energy revolution.
With an investment of approximately ₹1.85 lakh crore, the NTPC Green Energy Limited project aims to produce 1500 TPD Green Hydrogen and 7500 TPD derivatives such as Green Methanol, Green Urea, and Sustainable Aviation Fuel. These products will primarily cater to export markets. The hub will also contribute to India’s target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity by 2030, reinforcing the country’s leadership in renewable energy.
Industrial and Manufacturing Advancements
In a move to boost industrialization, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the Krishnapatnam Industrial Area (KRIS City) in Tirupati District, part of the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor. The ₹10,500 crore greenfield industrial city is set to create over one lakh direct and indirect jobs, fostering regional progress and manufacturing excellence.
PM Modi also highlighted the Bulk Drug Park at Nakkapalli in Anakapalli District, one of three such parks in the country. The facility will enhance India’s pharmaceutical sector by providing state-of-the-art infrastructure for drug manufacturing and research, further strengthening investor confidence.
Boosting Connectivity and Rail Infrastructure
Connectivity was another key focus, with the Prime Minister inaugurating and laying the foundation for railway and road projects worth ₹19,500 crore. Among these is the establishment of the South Coast Railway Zone Headquarters in Visakhapatnam, fulfilling a long-pending demand.
With Andhra Pradesh achieving 100% railway electrification, the projects aim to improve regional connectivity and enhance trade and tourism opportunities. PM Modi also announced the launch of seven Vande Bharat Trains to boost passenger travel convenience and infrastructure modernization.
Focus on Blue Economy
Recognizing Andhra Pradesh’s maritime heritage, PM Modi emphasized the promotion of the blue economy. He announced the modernization of the Visakhapatnam Fishing Harbour, aimed at increasing the income of the fishing community and boosting local businesses.
