Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to leading the global AI revolution, emphasizing innovation and youth empowerment during a recent meeting with former Infosys CEO Vishal Sikka. Vishal Sikka, founder and CEO of Vianai Systems, described the interaction with PM Modi as deeply inspiring. “It was a privilege to meet the Hon. I left the meeting both inspired and humbled by his extraordinary grasp of technology’s impact on all of us, and how its use with democratic values can uplift everyone,” Sikka shared in a post on X.

The Prime Minister’s remarks align with the IndiaAI Mission, approved by the Union Cabinet in March 2023 with a budget of ₹10,371.92 crore. The mission aims to establish a robust AI ecosystem, bridging gaps between public and private sectors through strategic programs and partnerships.

IndiaAI Mission: Building an AI Ecosystem

The IndiaAI Mission seeks to:

  • Democratize Computing Access: Ensure equitable access to AI tools and infrastructure.
  • Enhance Data Quality: Improve datasets for training advanced AI models.
  • Develop Indigenous AI Capabilities: Build AI tools tailored to India’s unique needs.
  • Attract Global AI Talent: Encourage global experts to contribute to India’s AI initiatives.
  • Enable Industry Collaboration: Foster partnerships across technology and industrial sectors.
  • Provide Startup Risk Capital: Support AI-focused startups with financial backing.

The mission will be implemented through the IndiaAI Independent Business Division (IBD) under the Digital India Corporation (DIC).
