Vodafone Idea (Vi) has announced a strategic partnership with HCLSoftware, the software division of HCL Tech, to modernize and automate its 4G and 5G networks. This collaboration leverages the HCL Augmented Network Automation (HCL ANA) platform to optimize network performance, reduce energy consumption, and enhance the overall customer experience.
AI-Driven Network Optimization
The HCL ANA platform, a multivendor self-optimizing network (MV-SON) solution, uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to simplify Vi’s complex network operations. It manages multi-vendor, multi-technology, and multi-layered systems effectively.
This advanced technology helps Vi streamline network management across Ericsson and Samsung equipment, ensuring seamless integration and improved operational efficiency.
Jagbir Singh, Chief Technology Officer at Vodafone Idea, emphasized the significance of the partnership, stating:
“This collaboration with HCLSoftware marks a pivotal step forward for Vodafone Idea. The AI-powered HCL ANA platform will simplify our network operations and deliver an exceptional network experience to our customers. It also underscores our commitment to adopting advanced, Made-in-India technologies to enhance services, optimize costs, and prepare for future telecom innovations.”
Supporting Local Innovation
HCLSoftware sees this partnership as a way to contribute to India’s telecom and technology ecosystem. Neeraj Purandare, Senior Vice President and General Manager of ISD Business at HCLSoftware, shared:
“We are thrilled to collaborate with Vodafone Idea to support their network growth and expansion. This partnership not only benefits Indian telecom users but also boosts local technology innovation and development.”
Industry Context
This partnership comes at a critical time for Vodafone Idea, which has been facing challenges in the competitive telecom market. As per the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Vi’s revenue market share fell to an all-time low of 14.5% during the July-September quarter, down from 15% in the previous quarter. The company experienced share losses across all 22 telecom circles.
