Yotta Launches India’s First Sovereign AI Chatbot

Yotta Data Services has introduced myShakti, India’s first fully sovereign B2C generative AI chatbot. Built on the DeepSeek Open-Source AI model, myShakti operates entirely on servers hosted within India, ensuring full data sovereignty. The move aligns with Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw’s call for hosting open-source AI within India to enhance data security and privacy.

The AI model was developed by Yotta’s team in just four days and deployed within the company’s NM1 data center on an infrastructure of 128 H100 GPUs. Currently in beta, the chatbot is available for free on a web application.

Commitment to Data Sovereignty and Democratization of AI

Darshan Hiranandani, CEO of the Hiranandani Group and Chairman of Yotta Data Services, emphasized the importance of data sovereignty. “myShakti is Yotta’s response to the government’s vision of self-reliant AI,” Hiranandani stated. He highlighted that DeepSeek’s efficiency-first approach would be a game-changer for AI adoption in India, reducing reliance on costly infrastructure.

The initiative aims to make AI more accessible by providing startups, researchers, and businesses with the tools to innovate without the burden of high infrastructure costs. By lowering barriers to entry, Yotta seeks to replicate the kind of widespread adoption seen in India’s mobile revolution.

Early-Stage Development and Feedback Integration

Yotta has implemented a feedback mechanism to continually refine myShakti’s capabilities. According to Sunil Gupta, Co-founder and CEO of Yotta Data Services, this approach will drive widespread adoption and improvement. He also referred to this as potentially being India’s “Sputnik moment for AI,” signifying a crucial turning point for the country’s AI development.

“The integration of DeepSeek is transformative,” Gupta added. “Its low compute requirements and open-source foundation reduce costs drastically, enabling scalable AI adoption. This paves the way for India to lead in global AI innovation.”

Revolutionizing AI Infrastructure with DeepSeek

DeepSeek’s recent innovations challenge traditional norms by demonstrating that resource-efficient models can rival those built on expensive AI infrastructure. Using a comparatively modest $5.6 million worth of older GPUs, the DeepSeek model has showcased the effectiveness of reinforcement learning. This opens opportunities for India to develop AI solutions that are tailored to its linguistic, cultural, and socio-economic contexts.

Yotta’s initiative is part of a broader strategy to advance India’s generative AI landscape. Through projects like Shakti Cloud, the company aims to provide critical infrastructure for ongoing innovation in AI technologies while addressing national data sovereignty concerns.
