Zurich Insurance Group Launches GCC in Hyderabad to Expand AI and Technology Capabilities

Zurich Insurance Group has announced the launch of a new global capability centre in Hyderabad, marking a fresh phase in its effort to strengthen technology and AI capabilities across its global insurance operations. The centre is being positioned as a strategic extension of Zurich’s operating model, with end-to-end ownership across engineering, data, and core business functions. The company has also named Amit Kalra as Head of Zurich Capability Centres, effective July 1, to lead the global GCC strategy and oversee the Hyderabad expansion.

Zurich said the new centre reflects its broader shift toward building future-ready capabilities in an AI-led environment, with the facility designed to support modern digital transformation without the constraints of legacy systems. The Hyderabad GCC will embed AI-enabled ways of working into the design, delivery, and scaling of solutions across the organisation from the outset, giving the company a base for technology development, platform innovation, and operational execution.

Hyderabad Chosen for Engineering Depth

The company’s decision to expand in Hyderabad underscores the city’s growing importance as a hub for engineering, innovation, and global enterprise delivery. Cara Morton, CEO of Zurich Global Businesses and Operations, said India remains a key talent market for Zurich and described Hyderabad as a location with strong engineering depth and innovation capabilities. She noted that the centre will help Zurich build global technology and AI capabilities while creating opportunities for skilled professionals to work on solutions with worldwide impact.

The Hyderabad facility is being built as a purpose-designed environment to support technology and AI-led capability development at scale. Zurich plans to use the centre to strengthen its global digital transformation agenda while enabling faster development of solutions that can be deployed across business units and markets.

Hiring Across Core Technology Roles

As part of its expansion plan, Zurich will recruit specialists across cloud and platform engineering, data and AI, application development, cybersecurity, and quality engineering. The centre’s teams will own the full lifecycle of solutions, from design and development to execution, and will contribute directly to global platforms and business outcomes.

This model reflects a wider trend among large multinational companies that are increasingly using Indian GCCs not just as delivery hubs but as strategic capability centres for product engineering, data innovation, and AI transformation. Zurich’s move adds another example of how global insurers are deepening their technology footprint in India to improve agility, build resilience, and accelerate enterprise-wide digital change.
