Jio Platforms Ltd (JPL) made a strong debut on the stock market. Following a remarkable listing, Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio and Managing Director of Jio Platforms, used the day to set out what comes next. Jio will move beyond affordable data into artificial intelligence, cloud computing and international telecom technology partnerships.
A Journey From Idea to 540 Million Customers
Speaking at the listing ceremony, Ambani said he came back to India after studying abroad to work with his father on a shared ambition: making the country digital. He described Jio’s early years as a venture that started with little more than an idea. The team behind it believed every Indian deserved affordable, world-class technology.
Jio’s homegrown platforms now serve more than 540 million customers, or 54 crore, he said.
The Next Wave of Technology
Ambani said the next phase will go well beyond affordable data. It will cover AI, cloud computing, connected devices, satellite connectivity and digital services that no one has imagined yet.
He framed it as a 10-year arc. In its first decade, Jio democratised data and brought hundreds of millions of people into digital life. In the next decade, he wants to democratise every technology that can transform Indian lives.
In an email to employees, reported by Telangana Today, Ambani said Jio must now lead the next wave of technological change. He pointed to connectivity, digital services, cloud and AI. The goal, he wrote, is to make the world’s most advanced technologies affordable, accessible and meaningful for every Indian.
A Message to the Next Generation
Ambani’s remarks suggested that the responsibility now sits with the next generation. He said the coming decade must be about helping every Indian reach their full potential in the age of AI.
He also looked far ahead. Reliance has created value for shareholders for nearly 50 years, he said, and Jio will do the same for the next 50. His comments came as Jio shares opened 21.4 per cent above the IPO price. They rose as much as 23 per cent to ₹1,375, which valued the company at more than ₹12.5 lakh crore.
Ambani called the listing a starting line, not a finish line. He promised to create value for shareholders over the decades and pointed to the parent company’s track record. He said he and his siblings have taken the baton from their father. They pledge to make Jio bigger, better and more meaningful for India.
